Antique Radio Restoration

This is not our first antique Radio project, but to be honest we always have fun with them! We start by searching the depths of the internet for an old radio, we prefer the Philco’s mostly because of their styling. Once we’ve acquired our radio, we strip out all of the old unnecessary but still highly respected tubes and amplifier paraphernalia. Now, most of these old radios are built with a veneer finish and then lacquered with a heavy finish. We like to carefully sand down the veneer to grain so we can class this old gal up a bit. Most of the face plates on these radios can be removed fairly easily but sometimes its best to leave them in place and tape them off with a high quality painters tape for protection if you are afraid its going to break. After the radio is prepped and ready, we apply a finish to suit the new desired look(stain, clear, ect.) evenly throughout the entire radio face.

This is the part in the project where we give this radio new life. All of our radios are outfitted with a 2.1 Bluetooth enabled sound system, to give great volume as well as incredible sound quality to this “new” radio. And if applicable we also throw in modern turntable so that you can break out the vinyl and keep the good times going! One of the last touches that we put on our radios is a back light behind the original glass display. Even though its not functional, who doesn’t love that warm comforting glow behind the radio dial when you click those old Philcos on?

These restored radios can add a ton of style to any room in your house, and hide that existing speaker system that you have sitting on the shelf. Let us make your next radio today!
